Measure the child’s foot with a foot measuring device. If you’re using a tape measure, mark the center of the heel and the center of the longest toe, then measure the distance between these two points. Feel free to trace the foot onto a piece of paper first. Children have trouble concentrating for long periods during measurements and will try to run away.

You’ll need to add an extra 5 to 10 mm to the measured length, depending on your foot size. A 5 mm allowance will suffice for smaller feet, while for larger sizes (starting around size 24), you can count on a 10 mm allowance.
